Ontario Province To Ban Online Gambling Ads

Canada’s Ontario province, of which Toronto is the largest city, announced the introduction of a bill intent on stopping all forms of advertising for online gaming and online gambling companies. The proposed bill is a modification of Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act of 2002, and is spearheaded by Ontario Government Services Minister Gerry Phillips.

Party Poker Suffers 90% Revenue Slip

PartyGaming’s online poker site, Party Poker, saw its share price drop another 13 percent on Tuesday, prompting analysts to suggest that its withdrawal from the US market in the wake of new US gambling law, may have accounted for a 90 percent drop in revenue.

Following its exit from the US market the company also made the decision to remove a ticker from the site which advertised the number of virtual tables in use and the number of players online.

Neteller Will Continue US Business

Neteller has announced that it will stay with US market even if President George Bush signs the Anti-Online Gambling Act that prohibits financial institutions from accepting transactions involving online gambling companies. “We are staying in the U.S. I don’t think we have a problem,” said Neteller Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Bruce Elliot.

Online Gambling Ban Bill Passed

The US House of Representatives and Senate has approved the Anti-Online Gambling Bill banning all forms of Internet gaming and sent it to President George W. Bush to sign into law.

The bill also officially makes it illegal for banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gambling sites. In a Congressional back room deal, opponents of Internet gambling have added language to port security legislation that would prohibit online wagering.
