2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP)

The 2008 World Series of Poker is fast approaching. The best poker players from around the world will gather in Las Vegas at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino from May 30, 2008 through July 17, 2008 in hopes of winning an exclusive bracelet and of course, a piece of the very large prize pool.

The 39th Annual WSOP, which is presented by Milwaukuee’s Best Light, will include 55 bracelet tournaments. For the Main Event, the No Limit Hold’Em World Championship, the buy-in is $10,000. In addition, there will be a total of eight $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’Em tournaments, which usually attracts the biggest fields outside of the No Limit Main Event. Buy-ins for other open events will vary from $1,000 to $50,000.

What’s more is that this year will introduce a new $10,000 buy-in mixed event. The World Series of Poker Mixed Event will feature eight variations of poker: Limit and No-Limit Hold’Em; Omaha Hi-Low and Pot-Limit Omaha; Seven Card Stud; Razz; Seven Card Hi-Low Split; and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball.

Pre-registration has already begun for all 55 events. The pre-registration deadline is 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the specific event. One can register online at the WSOP’s official site- www.worldseriesofpoker.com or live at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino at the main cashier’s cage. However, an important word of advice from the 2008 WSOP tournament director Jack Effel: “We’ve received only positive comments about the 2008 schedule, which offers WSOP bracelets in eight variations of poker and at multiple buy-in levels. Because no alternates will be seated at the 2008 WSOP, we encourage players to pre-register early to guarantee their seats. Once again acceptable forms of payment will include cash, cashier’s checks, wire transfers and Rio casino chips.”

Alternatively, there are numerous satellite tournaments being held now by the big poker rooms that can earn you a seat to the tournament.

All in all, this year’s 2008 World Series of Poker promises to be another fantastic success as it has been in recent years. Great play, talent and skill will surely prevail once the cards are dealt in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on May 30, 2008.
