All Eyes on 2008 WSOP Female-Only Event

One thing is for certain. When the 3-day, World Series of Poker female-only event starts on June 8 at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, there will be more than a fair share of men watching the tables. After all, with a star-studded line-up, who would even think of averting their eyes?

So who has confirmed their participation at the prestigious $1000 buy-in event? Mimi Rogers should come as no surprise but other celebrities include Joely Fisher, Teri Hatcher, Cheryl Hines, and Mindy McCready. Of course, these celebrities may find that they have signed up for more than they have bargained for. Defending champion Sally Ann Boyer will be joined by other poker professionals Shawnee Barton, two-time winner Barbara Enright, Pamela Brunson, two-time winner Susie Isaacs, 2006 champion Mary Jones and Linda Johnson.

“This event has grown remarkably over the last five years and is now one of the most anticipated events of the 55-event World Series of Poker,” said Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner. “With leadership from the Queens of Heart for the third year in a row, we’re confident the atmosphere and play will be fun and exciting.” The Queens of Heart team is a group of celebrities and poker professionals who play to raise funds for the Nevada Cancer Institute.

Expect the competition level to be at its fiercest. With an estimated of over $1 million in the prize pool, you can expect these women to fight tooth and nail over the coveted gold bracelet. Just because they’re ladies doesn’t mean they’re going to let some other chick steal the big win from them. Expect these women to draw blood.
